↝ Overview of the 15-Day Grand Morocco Tour From Tangier

15-Day Morocco Tour from Tangier — Rif Mountains, the Sahara, Marrakech and the Atlantic Coast

15-Day Morocco Tour from Tangier

Two weeks in Morocco. One private vehicle. No rushed mornings. That’s the simplest description of our 15-day Morocco tour from Tangier—but the route itself is worth explaining more carefully, because the direction it takes after Marrakech is what makes it different from every other long itinerary we run from the north.

Most Tangier tours end in Marrakech and ask you to figure out the rest. This one uses the remaining five days to close the loop differently—not by retracing the road back to Tangier, but by heading north from Marrakech along a completely different arc: Rabat’s imperial landmarks on Day 11, the Hassan II Mosque and Casablanca’s Corniche on Day 12, and two days in Essaouira on the Atlantic coast on Days 13 and 14. The final transfer on Day 15 goes to either Marrakech or Casablanca airport depending on your flight.

Two genuinely free days are built into the itinerary—one in Chefchaouen on Day 3 and one in Essaouira on Day 14. Neither is a buffer day or a rest day disguised as free time. Both are chosen because those particular towns reward hours of unplanned wandering in a way that scheduled stops can’t replicate. This is a fully private tour from Tangier, and every stop can be adjusted through our tailor-made Morocco tours service.

↪ Duration: 15 days / 14 nights Start: Tangier End: Marrakech or Casablanca airport Tour Type: 100% Private Desert: Erg Chebbi, Merzouga — camel trek and camp included Included Meals: Daily breakfasts, plus 3 dinners Difficulty: Easy — suitable for all ages

↝ Why Choose This 15-Day Tour From Tangier?

There is a question every long Morocco itinerary has to answer: what happens after Marrakech? Some tours reverse and retrace the same road. Others end abruptly and leave you to organize the onward connection yourself. Our 15-day Morocco tour from Tangier uses the days after Marrakech to complete a geographic arc—north through Rabat and Casablanca, then west to Essaouira—that covers Atlantic Morocco in a way the desert half of the trip can’t.

That arc also introduces a different pace. By Day 11, you’ve crossed mountains and crossed deserts. Rabat moves slowly. Essaouira is wind and harbor smells and thuya wood craftsmen working in quiet lanes. Those two free days—Chefchaouen near the start and Essaouira near the end—are placed deliberately to create breathing room at the moments the trip most needs it. As a local Morocco tour operator, we’ve run this route long enough to know that the stops travelers remember most are often the ones that didn’t have a schedule attached.

↝ 15-Day Morocco Itinerary: Day-by-Day Tour Plan

Day 1: Tangier—Arrival

Your 15-day Morocco tour from Tangier begins at Ibn Battuta Airport or Tangier Med port, where your driver meets you and transfers you to your hotel. Today has no itinerary. Settle in, take a first walk along the seafront Corniche if the evening allows, and rest before the journey south begins tomorrow.

Day 2: Tangier ⇢ Chefchaouen

After breakfast, the route turns south into the Rif Mountains towards Chefchaouen—Morocco’s famous Blue City, where the walls, stairwells, and doorways of the medina are painted in shades of blue that shift noticeably through the day. You arrive by early afternoon with time to check in and take a first slow walk through the lanes before dinner.

Day 3: Full Free Day in Chefchaouen

No schedule, no vehicle, no next stop. Wander the medina in any direction—away from the main square, up the steeper alleys, through the market stalls selling locally woven wool. The Ras El Maa spring at the edge of the old city is a quiet spot for the morning. The Spanish Mosque above the town rewards the uphill walk with a panoramic view that spans the whole Blue City and the Rif ridge behind it. Dusk from that viewpoint is one of the most consistently good moments on this whole 15-day itinerary.

Day 4: Chefchaouen ⇢ Volubilis ⇢ Meknes ⇢ Fes

After breakfast, the drive south through Rif villages leads to Volubilis—a UNESCO-listed Roman city where 3rd-century floor mosaics, triumphal arches, and public buildings stand largely intact. From there, Meknes follows—lunch and a visit to the Bab al-Mansour gate and El Hedim Square—before arriving in Fes for the night.

Day 5: Fes—Full-Day Guided Medina Tour

A knowledgeable local guide leads the full day inside the UNESCO-listed Fes medina—through Bab Boujloud and along lanes that have changed little since the 14th century—covering the Chouara Tanneries, the Al-Attarine Madrasa, Al-Qarawiyyin University, and the Mellah, finishing at a hilltop viewpoint over the entire city.

Day 6: Fes ⇢ Ifrane ⇢ Cedar Forest ⇢ Ziz Valley ⇢ Merzouga

The longest driving day of the trip, and also the one where the landscape changes most completely—from alpine mountain town to cedar forest to rocky plateau to palm valley to sand dunes, all in a single day. The route stops in Ifrane, continues through the cedar forests near Azrou where Barbary macaques appear roadside, passes through Midelt for lunch, follows the Ziz Valley palm oasis, and arrives at Merzouga in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight near the Erg Chebbi dunes.

Day 7: Full Day Exploring the Merzouga Desert

In the morning, the route heads to Khamlia village for live Gnawa music—a tradition carried to Morocco generations ago from Mali, Sudan, and Niger, performed in a community setting that has nothing to do with tourism. Sandboarding or a quad bike ride is available in the afternoon for those who want it.

By late afternoon, a camel trek carries you into the dunes as the light turns deep orange, pausing atop a high dune for sunset before continuing to your luxury desert camp for dinner, Berber drumming, and a night under an exceptional desert sky.

Day 8: Merzouga ⇢ Rissani ⇢ Todra Gorge ⇢ Dades Valley

An early sunrise is well worth the alarm. After breakfast at camp, the route continues west through Rissani—the historic caravan town with a traditional souk on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays—and on to Todra Gorge in Tinghir, where limestone walls rise sharply 300 meters above a narrow canyon floor. The afternoon drive through Dades Valley and its monkey finger rock formations ends at your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 9: Dades Valley ⇢ Rose Valley ⇢ Ouarzazate ⇢ Ait Benhaddou ⇢ Marrakech

The Rose Valley near Kalaat M’Gouna comes first—fragrant rose fields used for rose water and cosmetics, at their most vivid in April and May. From there, the route continues through Ouarzazate—the Hollywood of Africa—with an optional Atlas Studios visit. Our dedicated Ouarzazate tours page covers this city in more depth. The UNESCO-listed Ait Benhaddou Kasbah follows before the High Atlas Mountains crossing via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass leads into Marrakech by evening.

Day 10: Marrakech—Full-Day Guided City Tour

A local guide leads the full day—Bahia Palace, the Saadian Tombs, the Koutoubia Mosque, Ben Youssef Madrasa, and the medina souks—before an optional afternoon at the Majorelle Garden. The evening belongs to Jemaa el-Fna Square. Explore onward options via our Marrakech desert tours page if you’re extending your stay.

Day 11: Marrakech ⇢ Rabat

After breakfast, the route heads north to Rabat, Morocco’s capital—a city that most tourists drive past without stopping, which means its landmarks rarely feel crowded. The Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the Kasbah of the Udayas above the Bou Regreg River all receive proper time before dinner and overnight in the capital.

Day 12: Rabat ⇢ Casablanca

A short drive brings you to Casablanca, Morocco’s largest city. The Hassan II Mosque—one of the world’s largest, built directly above the Atlantic with a retractable glass roof and a 210-meter minaret—is the clear highlight and one of the few mosques in Morocco open to non-Muslim visitors. A walk along the Corniche follows before dinner and overnight in the city.

Day 13: Casablanca ⇢ Essaouira

The coastal road south passes through argan tree forests before arriving in Essaouira—a UNESCO-listed 18th-century Atlantic port town with cannon-lined sea ramparts, blue fishing boats in the harbor, and a medina shaped by European military architecture rather than the older Islamic models you’ve seen in Fes and Marrakech. The afternoon is yours to explore the artisan workshops, the Skala fortress, and the fishing port before dinner and overnight.

Day 14: Full Free Day in Essaouira

Today has no schedule. Walk the ramparts in the morning when the fishing boats are most active in the harbor below. Browse the thuya wood workshops in the artisan quarter—local craftsmen carve the fragrant local wood by hand into objects sold throughout Morocco. The beach south of town is popular with windsurfers and is a completely different version of Essaouira from the medina. As the afternoon fades, the Atlantic light over the harbor walls makes for one of the best sunsets of the whole trip.

Day 15: Transfer to Marrakech or Casablanca Airport

Depending on your flight time, your driver transfers you from Essaouira to Marrakech Menara Airport or Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport, bringing your 15-day Morocco tour from Tangier to a close.

↝ Frequently Asked Questions

After Marrakech, why does this tour go north through Rabat rather than back toward Tangier?

Because Rabat, Casablanca, and Essaouira are genuinely worth seeing, and the coastal road north from Marrakech is a completely different Morocco from the southern route you’ve already covered. Retracing the same road back to Tangier would repeat landscapes you’ve already seen. Going north via the Atlantic coast adds three new cities and closes the trip on a different geographic note.
