↝ Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1 — Marrakech → High Atlas Mountains → Erg Chebbi Dunes

Your 2-day desert tour from Marrakech begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel or riad. As you head south, the city gives way to the dramatic High Atlas Mountains. Your guide shares stories about Berber villages along the route. Eventually, you reach the Tizi n’Tichka pass at 2,260 meters—the highest paved pass in North Africa. After descending, the landscape shifts from green valleys to warm ochre plains dotted with ancient kasbahs and date palms.

By mid-afternoon, the golden Erg Chebbi dunes appear on the horizon. Upon arriving in Merzouga, your cameleer leads you into the desert at sunset. Together, you climb the dunes as the sand turns from gold to deep orange around you. Afterwards, the trek continues to your luxury desert camp. Following dinner under the open sky, the campfire is lit, Berber music fills the air, and an extraordinary blanket of stars appears above you.

Day 2 — Sunrise over the Dunes → Ait Ben Haddou → Marrakech

Wake up before dawn—the Erg Chebbi sunrise is worth every minute of lost sleep. As the first light touches the dunes, they glow in shades of orange and pink while the desert air remains perfectly still. After a relaxed breakfast at the camp, your 4×4 departs north. However, this is not simply a long drive home. Instead, your guide takes you through the scenic Draa Valley and past ancient kasbahs along the way.

The highlight of the return is the stop at Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah—a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987 and filming location for Gladiator and Game of Thrones. You stop at the panoramic viewpoint for photos before continuing north. A lunch break follows at a local restaurant en route. Then, in the late afternoon, your driver drops you back at your riad in Marrakech. Your 2-day Marrakech desert tour is complete—and the memories stay with you long after.

↝ Frequently Asked Questions

Can I skip the camel ride?

Of course. If camel riding is not for you, we will simply transport you to the desert camp in a comfortable 4×4—at no extra cost. Your experience at the camp remains exactly the same.

All our vehicles are modern, air-conditioned private 4×4 SUVs or vans. We select the right vehicle size based on your group, so you always travel comfortably.
We recommend booking at least 3–5 days in advance to guarantee your preferred camp. During high season — particularly March, April, October, and November — we advise booking 2–3 weeks ahead, as camps fill up quickly.
For a genuine Sahara experience, Merzouga is the clear answer. The Erg Chebbi dunes are dramatically larger and more photogenic than those near Zagora. Although Zagora involves a shorter drive, the visual payoff is considerably smaller. For a trip that is meant to be memorable, Merzouga is always worth it.
Desert weather is almost always excellent — Merzouga receives very little rainfall. In the rare event of a sandstorm, your experienced guide will adjust the itinerary accordingly to keep you safe and comfortable.
A deposit is required to confirm your booking. The remaining balance is settled in cash (MAD or EUR) on the day of departure, or as agreed at the time of booking.
