↝ Overview of the Private 10-day Morocco tour Fes
10-Day Morocco Tour from Fes — The Complete Loop: Imperial Cities, Atlantic Coast, Sahara and Back
Every tour we run from Fes eventually arrives somewhere else. Our 10-day Morocco tour from Fes is the exception—a complete circular loop that begins and ends in Fes, covering the full range of Morocco’s geography without requiring a return flight from a different city. The route travels west through Volubilis, Meknes, and Rabat on Day 3, continues south via Casablanca to Marrakech on Day 4, loops through the High Atlas to the Sahara’s Erg Chebbi dunes, and returns north through the Ziz Valley and Middle Atlas to Fes on Day 9—before a final airport transfer on Day 10.
That circular structure makes this the most logistically complete tour we offer from Fes. Your departure airport is your arrival airport, there are no one-way transfer complications, and the return route through the Ziz Valley and Azrou cedar forest is genuinely different from the outbound road via Rabat and Casablanca. Furthermore, this is a fully private desert tour from Fes, with a local guide for the Fes medina day, a local guide for the Marrakech day, and your own private vehicle and driver throughout. If you’d like to compare this with other Fes departures, our Morocco itineraries page lists every option.

↝ Why Choose This 10-Day Tour From Fes?
Our 10-day Morocco tour from Fes is the only itinerary in our Fes collection that covers Volubilis, Meknes, Rabat, and Casablanca—stops that appear on our Casablanca departure tours but that Fes tours almost never reach. The reason is simple: adding them extends the route west before turning south, which requires a circular structure rather than a one-way crossing. Most operators avoid that complexity. We’ve built the loop so that it works naturally—the outbound journey goes west and south (Fes → Rabat → Casablanca → Marrakech → Sahara), and the return goes north (Sahara → Ziz Valley → Azrou → Ifrane → Fes), covering completely different landscapes on the way home.
The result is that no day feels like a repeat. Every stretch of road on the return journey is different from every stretch on the outbound drive. As a local Morocco tour operator who handles every detail from airport arrival to airport departure, we’ve structured the loop so it flows naturally rather than feeling like a tour that’s trying to cover too much in too little time. Each day has a clear identity, and the stops between cities are as rewarding as the cities themselves.

↝ 10-Day Morocco Itinerary: Day-by-Day Tour Plan
Day 1: Fes—Arrival and Welcome
Your 10-day Morocco tour from Fes begins at Fes-Saïss Airport, where your driver transfers you to your riad in the medina. The evening is yours—a walk near the medina walls, dinner in the old city, or rest after your flight. Tomorrow’s guided day begins early.
Day 2: Fes—Full-Day Guided Medina Tour
A local guide leads you the full day inside the UNESCO-listed Fes medina. The day covers the Royal Palace gates, the Mellah (Jewish quarter), a panoramic viewpoint over the whole medina, and then Fes el-Bali itself—the Chouara Tanneries, the University of Al-Qarawiyyin, and the covered souks where leatherworkers, weavers, and metalworkers still use centuries-old methods. You return to your riad in the evening, having genuinely explored one of the best-preserved medieval cities in the world.
Day 3: Fes ⇢ Volubilis ⇢ Meknes ⇢ Rabat
After breakfast, the drive west passes through rolling countryside before arriving at Volubilis—a UNESCO-listed Roman city where remarkably preserved mosaic floors, standing columns, and 3rd-century archways make for one of the most compelling archaeological stops in North Africa.
From there, a short drive leads to Meknes for lunch and a visit to the monumental Bab Mansour Gate and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, before continuing to Rabat—Morocco’s capital—for visits to the Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the Kasbah of the Udayas above the Atlantic. Dinner and overnight in Rabat.
Day 4: Rabat ⇢ Casablanca ⇢ Marrakech
The coastal road south reaches Casablanca, Morocco’s largest and most commercial city, for a stop at the Hassan II Mosque—one of the few mosques in Morocco open to non-Muslim visitors, built partly over the Atlantic Ocean with a 200-meter minaret and a retractable glass roof.
By late afternoon, the drive continues to Marrakech. However tired the road has made you, Jemaa el-Fna Square at sunset is worth stepping into—food stalls, musicians, and storytellers fill the space in a way that makes it unlike any other public square in the country. Overnight in a riad in the Marrakech medina.
Day 5: Marrakech—Full-Day Guided City Tour
A local guide leads the full day—the Koutoubia Mosque and its 12th-century minaret, the Saadian Tombs with their intricate tilework, the Bahia Palace with its carved cedar ceilings and courtyard gardens, and the medina’s covered souks. The afternoon offers an optional visit to the Majorelle Garden before an evening back on Jemaa el-Fna Square. You can also explore onward options from here via our Marrakech Desert Tours page.
Day 6: Marrakech ⇢ Ait Benhaddou ⇢ Ouarzazate ⇢ Dades Valley
After breakfast, the route climbs over the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass—one of the highest paved roads in North Africa—with Berber villages built into the hillsides along the descent. On the far side, the UNESCO-listed Ait Benhaddou Kasbah comes into view: a mud-brick fortified village used as a filming location for Gladiator and Game of Thrones.
Ouarzazate follows the Hollywood of Africa with an optional visit to Atlas Studios, covered in more depth on our Ouarzazate tours page. The route continues through the Skoura oasis and the Valley of Roses before reaching Dades Valley for the night.
Day 7: Dades Valley ⇢ Todra Gorge ⇢ Rissani ⇢ Merzouga
More of the Dades Valley’s rock formations in the morning before the road climbs into Todra Gorge—where canyon walls rise 300 meters above a narrow river path in one of the most dramatic natural formations in Morocco. A walk through the gorge floor is worth every minute.
Rissani follows—the ancient caravan town and birthplace of Morocco’s ruling Alaouite dynasty—with a stop at the traditional souk on market days (Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday). By afternoon, the Erg Chebbi dunes appear on the horizon. A camel trek carries you into the desert at sunset, followed by dinner and Berber drumming at your luxury desert camp.
Day 8: Full Day Exploring the Merzouga Desert
A day with no driving. A sunrise over the dunes begins the morning before a visit to Khamlia village, where the Gnawa community performs traditional music with roots in Mali, Sudan, and Niger. Optional quad biking or a buggy ride across the dunes can be arranged locally for those who want more. The pace is yours to set—the desert rewards unhurried time.
Day 9: Merzouga ⇢ Erfoud ⇢ Ziz Valley ⇢ Azrou ⇢ Ifrane ⇢ Fes
An early start catches the desert sunrise before breakfast and the long drive back to Fes along a route completely different from the outbound journey. The road passes through Erfoud’s fossil workshops and along the Ziz Valley palm oasis, with a panoramic stop above the canyon before crossing into the Middle Atlas.
A stop at the Azrou cedar forest offers a second chance to see the Barbary macaques, followed by Ifrane—the alpine-style mountain town that always comes as a surprise after days in the desert. By evening, you roll back into Fes for a final night in the city.
Day 10: Transfer to Fes Airport
A final morning free in the medina or simply resting before your transfer to Fes-Saïss Airport, bringing your 10-day Morocco tour from Fes to a close—the same airport you arrived at ten days ago.
↝ Frequently Asked Questions
Why does this tour return to Fes rather than ending in Marrakech?
It’s the only practical way to cover Volubilis, Meknes, Rabat, and Casablanca on a Fes-departure tour—the circular structure lets those stops appear naturally on the outbound journey before the route loops south and returns north. You depart and arrive at the same airport, with no extra transfers.
Is Day 3's stop in Rabat long enough to actually see the city?
The afternoon covers the Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the Kasbah of the Udayas—Rabat’s three most significant stops—without rushing. If you’d like a longer Rabat stay, we can adjust the itinerary through our tailor-made Morocco tours service.
What is the Hassan II Mosque experience like for non-Muslim visitors?
It’s one of the few mosques in Morocco open to non-Muslims, with guided access to the main prayer hall, the hammam, and the ablutions area. The architecture—carved marble, hand-laid mosaic, and a retractable glass roof above the Atlantic—is genuinely extraordinary.
Does the route between Marrakech and the desert feel rushed?
Day 6 covers Ait Benhaddou and Dades Valley with stops along the way, and Day 7 has Todra Gorge before Merzouga. Neither day is purely a transfer—each one has its own content. The longest driving day is Day 9 on the return to Fes, which is broken by stops at Erfoud, the Ziz Valley, and Azrou.
