↝ Overview of the Casablanca to Marrakech itinerary
5-Day Morocco Itinerary from Casablanca — Chefchaouen, Fes, the Sahara and Marrakech
Landing in Casablanca and want to see the real Morocco in the days that follow? Our 5-day Morocco itinerary from Casablanca is built exactly for that—one route, one private vehicle, and four completely different faces of the country. As one of the most complete Casablanca desert tours we offer, it takes you from the blue-washed lanes of Chefchaouen to the medieval medina of Fes, across the Middle Atlas into the Sahara for a night among the Erg Chebbi dunes, and finally through Todra Gorge, Dades Gorge, and Ait Ben Haddou before arriving in Marrakech.
This is a private tour from the first pickup at Mohammed V Airport to the final drop-off, which means the pace, the stops, and the accommodation level are all built around you rather than a fixed group schedule. Furthermore, because the route naturally links Casablanca to Marrakech, it works equally well as the opening chapter of a longer Morocco trip or as a complete standalone journey. If you’d rather design something entirely your own, our custom Morocco tour service can rebuild this route — or any other — around your exact dates and interests, and you can book this Morocco desert tour directly whenever you’re ready.
↪ Duration: 5 days / 4 nights Start: Casablanca End: Marrakech Tour Type: 100% Private Desert: Erg Chebbi, Merzouga Included Meals: Daily breakfasts, plus dinner at the desert camp and in Dades Gorge Difficulty: Easy — suitable for all ages
↝ Why Choose This 5-Day Itinerary From Casablanca?
Most Casablanca-based itineraries either skip the Sahara entirely or rush through it as an afterthought. Our 5-day Morocco itinerary from Casablanca does neither—it treats Chefchaouen, Fes, and the desert as equally important chapters of the same trip, each with enough time to actually settle in rather than just pass through. Consequently, by the time you reach Marrakech, you’ve genuinely covered the north, the imperial heartland, and the Sahara in a single well-paced Morocco itinerary.
Furthermore, this is a fully private desert tour, with your own vehicle and driver-guide throughout, plus a dedicated local guide for your day in Fes. As a local Morocco tour operator based on the ground rather than a call center abroad, we can adjust, extend, or remove any stop to match your interests—this itinerary is a starting point, not a fixed script.

↝ 5-Day Morocco Itinerary: Day-by-Day Tour Plan
Day 1: Casablanca ⇢ Chefchaouen
Your 5-day Morocco itinerary from Casablanca begins with a pickup from Mohammed V International Airport or your hotel, where your driver-guide is waiting. The journey heads north to Chefchaouen, a small town tucked into the Rif Mountains and known throughout Morocco for its blue-washed buildings.
Upon arrival, you check into your riad and have free time to wander the narrow blue streets, browse the local markets, and settle into a café for a plate of traditional Moroccan food. The evening is spent at your riad, taking in the unusually peaceful atmosphere this town is known for.
Day 2: Chefchaouen ⇢ Fes
After breakfast, you travel south to Fes, one of Morocco’s four imperial cities. A knowledgeable local guide meets you on arrival and leads you through the medina’s historic streets, pointing out architecture and history that would be easy to miss without local knowledge.
Free time in the medina allows for a proper Moroccan lunch amid the sounds and scents of the market stalls. In the evening, you settle into a riad in the heart of the Fes medina—a quiet retreat inside one of the busiest old cities in the country. (If you’re starting your own trip from Fes rather than Casablanca, our desert tour from Fes covers this same region from the other direction.)
Day 3: Fes ⇢ Ifrane ⇢ Middle Atlas ⇢ Ziz Valley ⇢ Merzouga
After breakfast, the route heads south towards the Sahara, with a short stop in Ifrane along the way. Continuing on, you cross the Middle Atlas cedar forest, where wild Barbary macaques are often spotted before a lunch stop at a restaurant en route.
The drive continues through the Ziz Valley, known for its extensive palm oasis, before arriving at the Erg Chebbi dunes in the afternoon. A camel trek into the dunes follows, with a stop for sunset atop a high dune, before continuing to your luxury desert camp for dinner, Berber drumming, and a night beneath the stars.
Day 4: Merzouga ⇢ Rissani ⇢ Todra Gorge ⇢ Dades Gorge
An early sunrise over the dunes is well worth the wake-up call. After breakfast, you return to Merzouga by camel or 4×4, with a stop at the traditional souk in Rissani if your visit falls on a market day (Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday).
The route continues to Todra Gorge, where a walk through the canyon reveals dramatic views of the Todra River below towering cliffs. From there, a scenic drive through Dades Gorge passes the famous monkey finger rock formations before you settle into your hotel for the night.
Day 5: Dades Gorge ⇢ Ouarzazate ⇢ Ait Ben Haddou ⇢ High Atlas ⇢ Marrakech
On the final day, the route passes through Ouarzazate—often called the Hollywood of Africa—with an optional visit to Atlas Studios, the largest film studio in Morocco. If Ouarzazate itself interests you enough to linger longer, our dedicated Ouarzazate tours go deeper into the city and its film history. From there, you continue to the UNESCO-listed Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a filming location for Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia.
After lunch, the journey crosses the High Atlas Mountains towards Marrakech, with sweeping mountain views along the way. Your driver drops you at your hotel or riad in the late afternoon, marking the end of your 5-day Morocco itinerary from Casablanca. (Planning to explore further from here?
