The Grand 10-Day Morocco Journey—From the Atlantic Coast to Sahara Dunes to the Blue City

10-Day Morocco Grand Tour Coast to Sahara Unscripted

What if one trip could give you the ocean, the desert, the mountains, and the imperial cities—without ever feeling rushed? That is exactly what our 10-day Morocco grand tour delivers. Starting in Marrakech, you spend two full days exploring the city itself and the coastal town of Essaouira before heading south across the High Atlas Mountains to the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, the Todra Gorge, and the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. Moreover, you dedicate a full day to the Merzouga region alone—nomads, Khamlia’s Gnawa music, and the desert’s own flamingo lake.

From there, the journey continues north through Rissani and the Ziz Valley to a fully guided day in the Fes medina, followed by Meknes, the Roman ruins of Volubilis, and Chefchaouen, Morocco’s famous Blue City, before ending on the coast in Tangier. Furthermore, this is a fully private Morocco tour, so every hotel, stop, and pace can be tailored to you. As a result, this is genuinely the most complete way to experience Morocco in ten days.

↪ Duration: 10 days / 9 nights Start: Marrakech End: Tangier Tour Type: 100% Private

↝ Why Choose a 10-Day Morocco Grand Tour?

Most Morocco itineraries force you to choose a region—the coast, the desert, the imperial cities, or the north. Our 10-day Morocco grand tour refuses that trade-off entirely. It opens with the Atlantic coast at Essaouira, moves through a full guided day in Marrakech itself, crosses the Sahara with a dedicated day exploring the Merzouga region, and finishes with three imperial cities, Roman ruins, and the Blue City. Consequently, this is the itinerary for travelers who want to see Morocco properly, not just its highlights reel.

Furthermore, this private desert tour from Marrakech is entirely yours — every hotel, stop, and detour can be tailored through our Morocco itineraries. In addition, guided city tours in both Marrakech and Fes mean you experience these imperial cities with genuine local knowledge, not just a drive-through glance. As a result, ten days with us covers more of Morocco, in more depth, than most two-week trips booked elsewhere.

↝ Day-by-Day 10 days in Morocco itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Marrakech

Your 10-day Morocco grand tour begins with a pickup from Marrakech airport, followed by a brief orientation drive through the city before you are transferred to your riad for an overnight stay.

Day 2: Marrakech ⇢ Essaouira

After breakfast, you head west towards the coastal town of Essaouira, formerly known as Mogador, with a stop at an Argan tree cooperative along the way. Once known as one of Morocco’s most charming coastal towns, Essaouira offers free time to explore its fishing port, its cannon-lined ramparts, and its atmospheric medina before an overnight stay.

Day 3: Essaouira ⇢ Guided Sightseeing Tour of Marrakech

You return to Marrakech to discover the city’s most iconic landmarks with a local guide, including the 19th-century Bahia Palace and the beautifully preserved Ben Youssef Madrasa. The tour continues through the lively medina souks, the energy of Jemaa El Fna Square, and the grandeur of the Koutoubia Mosque, Marrakech’s largest.

Day 4: Marrakech ⇢ High Atlas Mountains ⇢ Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah ⇢ Rose Valley ⇢ Dades Valley

The road climbs through the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass, with stops for panoramic views and Berber villages, before reaching the UNESCO-listed Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou—a filming location for Gladiator, Alexander, and Game of Thrones—with time for an optional 40-minute hike through the kasbah itself.

Afterwards, you continue to Ouarzazate for lunch, then through the palm groves of Skoura to the Rose Valley, arriving in Dades Valley for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 5: Dades Valley ⇢ Todra Gorge ⇢ Merzouga Dunes ⇢ Camel Trekking

After breakfast, a scenic viewpoint over Dades Valley leads to the spectacular Todra Gorge, where the Todra River has carved a dramatic canyon between towering red cliffs. The route continues through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad, with free time for lunch.

By afternoon, you reach the Erg Chebbi dunes for a camel trek and a sunset atop a high dune, followed by dinner, Berber drumming, and dancing at your luxury desert camp.

Day 6: Exploring the Merzouga Region — Nomads, Khamlia, and the Flamingo Lake

An early sunrise over the dunes is well worth the wake-up call. After breakfast, you return to Merzouga and dedicate the full day to the region—driving off-road to an old eyeliner mine, then visiting local nomads in their handmade tent for Berber tea.

Afterwards, Khamlia Village welcomes you with Gnawa music and dance from a community with roots in Mali, Sudan, and Niger. Following lunch and a stroll through a palm grove, you visit Merzouga’s seasonal flamingo lake before settling into your riad beside the dunes.

Day 7: Merzouga ⇢ Rissani ⇢ Erfoud ⇢ Ziz Valley ⇢ Ifrane ⇢ Fes

After breakfast, you leave the desert for Rissani, the ancient capital of Tafilalet, with a lively souk on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, followed by Erfoud’s fossilized marble workshops and a panoramic stop over the Ziz Valley.

Following lunch in Midelt, the route passes through the cedar forest where Barbary macaques roam freely, then through Ifrane, often called the Switzerland of Morocco. You arrive in Fes by evening with free time in the medina.

Day 8: Guided Sightseeing Tour of Fes

After breakfast, your local guide leads a driving tour past the Royal Palace Gate, through the historic Mellah, and to the Borj Sud fortress for sweeping views over the ancient medina, followed by a stop at the Ceramic Village and School.

The tour continues on foot into the UNESCO-listed Fes medina, one of the best-preserved historic towns in the Arab world, including the Al Attarine Madrasa, the University of Al Quaraouiyine—the oldest existing university in the world—and the centuries-old Chouara Tanneries.

Day 9: Fes ⇢ Meknes ⇢ Volubilis Ruins ⇢ Chefchaouen

After breakfast, you depart for Meknes, the Ismaili capital and one of Morocco’s imperial cities, visiting Bab Al-Mansour, the Sahrij Souani basin, the Royal Stables, and the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum, with free time for lunch.

You then drive 30 kilometers to the Roman ruins of Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its remarkably preserved mosaics and archways. Afterwards, the route heads north to Chefchaouen in the Rif Mountains—Morocco’s famous Blue City—for an overnight stay.

Day 10: Chefchaouen ⇢ Rif Mountains ⇢ Tangier Airport

After breakfast, you drive through the scenic Rif Mountains towards Tangier Airport, marking the end of your 10-day Morocco grand tour. Depending on your flight time, you may enjoy free time to wander Chefchaouen’s blue-painted alleyways one last time or take a short city tour in Tangier.
